Donnie is home!!!

So the little one is finally home!
We can not thanks blue pearl veterinary hospital and West village veterinary enough!
With that said, we have removed all those mini tennis greenballs from our home. It's no guarantee but at least removing the possibility of this happening again will give us a bit more peace of mind. I think he looks way happier to be home, despite his shaved legs. Yay!

Here he is looking at me whilst eating with his gloves on.

Operation update 8

Donnie is doing better each day at west village vet. His IV's and feeding tubes are now removed. He is now just on antibiotics and will be taking them orally once he comes home tomorrow. He is currently eating dog food like a champion at the moment. All good news.

His blue sports bands have since been removed and Donnie is quite happy about it!

Operation update 7

Well day 1 at west village vet has been a success. Donnie has finally eaten food! He's doing so much better in every way. He still has an infection he is battling. But the fluid output in his stomach has gone down to 1mL which is great news.
His spirit and personality is back to normal and we can't wait to get this little guy home :)

Operation update 6

Well today we took Donnie out of the hospital and back to our vet at west village. He's still not eating but I get the feeling he's happy about it.

Operation update 5

Donnie was looking better yesterday at Blue Pearl vet hospital. He is still in ICU and his spirits have definitely picked up.

Husband found that although Donnie still has no interest in food, he still has a lot of interest in his nose. On the upside, Donnie still goes crazy for the Kong peanut butter in a can. If you are unfamiliar with this, it's basically peanut butter liquid treats for dogs that are put into of toys that they can get at.

So at least he is putting sonething into his stomach and keeping it down. And hopefully fluid build up in his stomach will continue to decrease.

Operation update 4

So after seeing Donnie at Blue Pearl vet hospital today.
We noticed spirits were better. When we decided to take the cone off for 20minutes he seemed more relaxed and a tiny bit happier.

Our vet told us that he is responding well to antibiotics for the infections in his stitches and we are now just waiting for him to eat. She has tried to speed this up by giving him an appetite booster. He did sniff a few pieces of turkey and did eat a tiny bit. Not enough to get his stomach moving or his GI tract. So it's another night in ICU for Donnie and if he improves a bit tomorrow, he can be moved to a lesser intensive care area of the hospital.

His Pancreatitis is still angry, but it takes time for it to get better naturally. His stomach will continue to fill up with fluids until he starts eating on his own.
Although he seems to be more interested in my husbands nose at the moment. At least it's something.

So for gods sake Donnie, please eat something and get better!

Operation update 3

Day 4 in ICU at Blue Pearl Veterinary hospital.
Good news, Donnie's infection is under control with the antibiotics from yesterday. Still however, wearing the cone of shame.

In addition, Donnie has had some heart murmurs and a cardiologist will be looking to do a heart ultrasound on him today.
Apart from getting the shivers, he appears to be in a better mood and higher in energy. He still has pancreatitis.

Operation update 2

Day 3 at Blue Pearl Veterinary hospital.
Donnie has perked up in mood yesterday and last night as he was fed nutrition through his tube, although he still shows no interest in food.
His pancreatitis is still moderate to severe and his stomach is still being drained of fluids regularly.

We were able to take him out for a walk during the day. He seemed to enjoy sitting in the sun.

Last night he seemed a little better and his tail did wiggle a few times. He walked around the room a little bit before chilling out on his blanket.

Less tubes today but some of his stitches are now infected. Only the last 2 though, his others are healing very well. Poor little guy is very weak and low on energy. His abdomen has now been bandaged because of the leakage from his stitches.

Come home Donnie, we miss you!

Operation update

So after some intensive care at Blue Bearl Veterinary hospital in midtown New York, Donnie has had his stomach drained of fluids several times a day. A symptom of pancreatitis.

Although the levels of fluids are decreasing, it is just great news to hear that his mood is picking up.
He has IV fluids and a nasal tube as you can see below. Once his stomach is able to handle food and function on its own and the pancreatitis reduces from severe to mild, then he will be on the mend.
We just hope to get this little guy home in 2 days.

Operation

So last Sunday June 15th, after a weekend of hurling. We took Doonie to the vet for a visit. We discovered that he had chewed up his tennis ball and swallowed some of the pieces. Seen as the white fragments below in his stomach, intestines and colon.

After a few days, the vets had decided to operate and remove the debris as it had caused blockages.
He is currently recovering from the operation slowly.

He has an inflamed pancreas at the moment which is currently being treated at a vet hospital in midtown.
We are hoping Donnie has a speedy recovery and gets his appetite back.
